Last week on the new Q & A segment of The Organised You TV, I talked about the importance of routines and systems in staying on top of your organisation - for your home, your family, and your general peace of mind! Being organised in your day-to-day life not only gives you back valuable time, but can give you greater focus, productivity and efficiency in the other areas of your life. Having some simple routines and systems in place will really allow you maximize your time and focus on those things you really want to spend time on.

On a daily basis, I get asked questions about home organisation - be it from my subscribers; those in my Home Balance Facebook community; or friends and family. I love receiving these questions, and respond to each and every one, with an aim to provide detailed and individualized advice and suggestions.

Not that I have all the answers by any means! All I can do is share what does (and doesn't) work for me, and for my clients, when it comes to getting more organised. But I always think it's good to hear someone else's perspective on an issue you're having, and possibly pick up some new ideas that you may not have considered before.

Round Up: The best of kitchen organising

Round Up: The best of kitchen organising

It's been AAAALLLL about kitchen organising around these parts lately! And it's no surprise that with the release of my new guide Clever Kitchens, giving you heaps of tips and effective strategies for getting your kitchen more organised has definitely been my most important mission.

I am obsessed with kitchen organisation, and for good reason... not just because I'm a crazy organising lady. I know that getting your kitchen organised can save you a serious amount of time, effort and energy on a daily basis. A well-organised kitchen is going to leave you feeling more calm, content and happy.

It might seem strange to claim that an organised kitchen will make you feel happier, but I can honestly say, from both client and personal experience, that this is completely true. Because you spend so much time in your kitchen, having everything easy to find and easily accessible will cut down on your preparation, cooking and clean-up time. This gives you more quality time to be doing the things you really want to do. When everything is working for you in a space, it will inevitably make you feel more calm, content and energized. The kitchen is what many would consider 'the heart of the home', so it makes sense to have this space working for you as efficiently and effectively as possible. Right?

This Christmas, we invited our extended family to lunch at our house - excited to be able to host a big celebration in our new home. We asked everyone to bring something to make the day a little easier. My sister-in-law Louise was on salads, and when she arrived, she went straight to the kitchen to finish putting them together. I sat back and noticed she was opening drawers and cabinets and finding things with ease, without having to ask. Everything seemed pretty intuitive. Which was awesome for me as the champagne had already been opened!

When I asked if she needed any help, she answered:

'Everything is so easy to find in here! You should have seen me this morning in my kitchen... To get to this big platter, I had to move a heap of crap out the way, things I don't even use anymore. I was getting so frustrated I didn't have enough space to prepare everything, I nearly didn't make it! Being in this kitchen is like **nirvana** compared to the nightmare I was in this morning!!'

I love my dramatic sister-in-law! We had a good laugh, but I knew she was only half-joking. She has told me many times before about how she hates being in her kitchen, and feels totally uninspired to cook in there.
